| New
Jersey's reputation, already the focus of late-night television
jokes, has taken a further "hit" with revelations
of corruption, favoritism in the awarding of state contracts,
payoffs to local and state decision-makers, extortion and
personal scandal. The citizens of New Jersey demand that
their elected officials be held accountable for their actions.
This half-hour program offers concrete measures that can
effectively restore the public image of New Jersey. The
panel addresses pay to play and campaign finance reform,
promoting transparency in the contracting process, and discusses
who should provide oversight of these proposed ethics reforms.
Further, the panel explores the obstacles citizens' face
in running for leadership positions in state and local government
and considers ways to alleviate these hurdles.
