This two-part special bring together a group of family members, teens, and coaches to discuss the challenges and pressures facing loved ones and friends when a child is living with special needs. The program highlights the importance of accepting individuals as they are. The term “inclusion” is usually associated with a special needs child and their interaction in the classroom with peers that do not live with physical, cognitive, behavioral, or emotional challenges. These two programs seek to broaden awareness of this term ”inclusion.” The panel discusses how participation in everyday activities in the community, sports, work, family chores benefit everyone involved. People are often uncomfortable around a person with special needs. The panel talks about ways to bridge that gap and break down the barriers that prevent us from interacting and appreciating one another. The goal of this program is to examine the challenges and joys of raising a child with special needs and most importantly, illustrate the need for understanding, acceptance and support of these young people and their families.
