in Focus is a special Caucus series looking at the many
challenges facing the modern American family. Funded by
Berlex and Cytogen, this one-hour program provides an in-depth
and honest look at how families cope when a loved one is
faced with advanced stages of cancer. We examine how to
maximize the patient’s quality of life, make difficult
decisions regarding the course of treatment, and follow
the emotional journey that families of cancer patients face
throughout the various states of the illness. Some of the
issued explored during the program include the stress on
patients and caregivers from time of diagnosis through treatment,
the impact of treatment and chemotherapy on patients and
their families, new forms of chemotherapy, pain management,
support groups, resources for caregivers, and the importance
of the relationship between patients and their physicians/hospital
and its effect on the patients physical and emotional well
being.
