Many
Americans are financially illiterate and do not understand
the fundamentals of finance. This one-hour Families in Focus
special explores a range of basic financial and investment-related
issues and provides concrete strategies for successful money
management. Some of the financial issues to be considered
include debt consolidation, setting a budget - and sticking
to it, mortgage education, saving for college and retirement
planning. The panel features financial and banking experts,
as well as individuals and families who are working to take
charge of their finances and their financial futures.
Tape piece - Produced by Joanna Caplan, this
piece features a woman named Angel Garrett who got out of
debt using a debt management program. We discuss the bad habits
that caused her to slip into debt, and the financial reformation
that brought her out of it. We also speak with Marge Derrick,
a counselor at Consumer Credit Counseling Service of NJ, Inc.,
which is a non-for profit agency, who speaks to the poor habits
that most people have in managing their own money. |
