“Families in Focus” special is designed to raises
awareness of the need for education, health, nutrition,
and social serves to increase the “school readiness”
of young children, particularly from low-income areas. School
readiness is about children’s ability to adjust to
the demands of school. In addition to basic abilities and
knowledge in language and math, children need broad cognitive,
emotional, and social skills in order to learn effectively.
These skills, coupled with attention to their physical health
and well-being play a significant role in determining their
life path. A panel of experts in the fields of early childhood
education include a preschool teacher, policy analyst, an
education specialist, parent and pediatrician, examine the
economic benefits of quality preschool education, its impact
upon predicting a child’s chances of succeeding in
school and life, how parents can promote school readiness
at home, and what parents should look for when choosing
a quality program for their child.
