| Law enforcement
is a rewarding, but extremely challenging and stressful
profession. All too often, the unique set of pressures cops
face in the line of duty lead to anxiety, depression and
even suicide. This program examines efforts underway to
help cops cope. We look at the world of law enforcement
and the toll it can take on officers and their families.
The program identifies the many life and health problems
that can result from a law enforcement officer’s lifestyle.
We’ll also examine what’s being done here in
New Jersey to address the needs of those charged with protecting
the citizens of our state. The panel features the program
director for Cop2Cop a 24 hour 7 day a week toll-free confidential
hotline, available exclusively for law enforcement officers
and their families to help deal with personal or job related
stress and behavioral healthcare issues; a retired female
cop and peer counselor who can talk about the stress women
cops face; a cop who was shot in the line of duty, and the
Director of the New Jersey State Police Employee Assistance
Program, who helped initialize the legislation for programming
like Cop2Cop.
