| Every 45 seconds,
someone in America has a stroke. Every 3.1 minutes, someone
dies of one. A stroke is an interruption of the blood supply
to any part of the brain resulting in damaged brain tissue.
On this installment, we look at the two broad categories
of stroke (ischemic and hemorrhagic) causes, risk factors,
prevention strategies, symptoms, rehabilitation, the effect
on the patient and family, and new technologies that improve
chances of survival and recovery without disability. The
panel includes physicians, stroke survivors, and a physical
therapist.
