Program

Breast Cancer Awareness in Young Women

Description

"Informed Choices" is Caucus: New Jersey's multi-part public television series aimed at providing the information you need to make informed health care decisions for you and your family.

On this installment of the series, we discuss the importance of breast health and young women and offer options in terms of both treatment and prevention. While a breast cancer diagnosis is life altering to women of all ages, the impact of this diagnosis on younger women can be particularly devastating as they struggle with multiple roles of wife, mother and professional. Diagnosing breast cancer in younger women can be more difficult because their breast tissue is often thicker than the breast tissue of an older women, thus by the time a lump can be felt it is often large and advanced enough to lower her chances of survival.

This program brings together experts from the LIFE Center at The Cancer Institute of New Jersey, a young breast cancer survivor, and an education coordinator from the Susan G. Komen Foundation Breast Cancer Foundation-North Jersey Affiliate whose ultimate goal lies in lowering breast cancer mortality rates in our communities.
