| This
program looks at how social policies either help or hinder
the provision of mental health services for youth in poor
communities. Polices and programs often reflect the strengths
and ideas of the authors, and do not address the needs of
the individuals they are designed to serve. Instead, a more
successful client-centered treatment model will be examined.
In addition, the need for more home-based services will be
addressed, as this helps to eliminate potential obstacles
to compliance such as transportation and childcare. Comprehensive
and coordinated services are needed to best serve the client
and eliminate duplication of services. Finally, the issue
of the juvenile justice system and its role in providing mental
health services will be considered.
The Partnership for Children is
the State of New Jersey Department of Human Services’
service system designed to make emotional/behavioral/mental
health services for families better and easier to access.
The services are family centered, strength-based and child
centered. The goal of the Partnership for Children is making
sure that children and families get help when and
where they need it, and to keep kids in school,
their homes, and communities. ValueOptions is the Contracted
Systems Administrator for the Partnership for Children.
ValueOptions’ role is to coordinate services over
the phone, offer technical assistance and quality management.
